Wagtail with a yellow head and belly, grey back, black white striped wings and black legs, eyes and beak. In breeding plumage the ♂ has a bright yellow head and breast with a black collar, in winter plumage paler yellow with black markings on the head. The ♀ has a grey head and less bright yellow. Chooses marsh like habitats up to an altitude of 4600 m. ⇔ l. 15-17 cm LA: ≈ The MOTACILLA FLAVA (Yellow wagtail) lacks the black collar and has a greenish back instead of grey. ≈ The EMBERIZA CITRINELLA (Yellowhammer) has brown on its back and wings.
