Orange serrated wing with black markings and a brown-black edge. The front wing tip a white marking and along the rear wing edge blue markings. The body and wing base is brown and hairy, the legs are yellow to light brown. Mainly found in East Europe. ⇔ wsp. 50-55 mm syn. Yellow-legged tortoiseshell, Large tortoiseshell LA: ≈ The NYMPHALIS POLYCHLOROS (Large tortoiseshell) has less serrated wings and darker legs. ≈ The POLYGONIA C-ALBUM (Comma) lacks the blue markings and the wing is more notched.
