Line Sabroe
Completely yellow to brown-yellow ant with wide upper jaws. Their vision is poor and they move relatively slowly. The ♂ have wings and are black. ⇔ l. 3-5 mm The nest is mainly below the surface, in meadows or on roadsides. They feed on honeydew from aphids, which live below the surface as well on the roots that have entered the nest. Aphid and ant live together where the ant protects the aphid to harvest the honeydew. On summer days the mating flight takes place, ♀ + ♂ both fly. Fertilised ♀ form new colonies, ♂ die after the flight.
