Long metallic shiny green damselfly with yellowish wing markings, the ♀ is more bronze coloured. The upper surface is dark with a lighter under surface, a characteristic dark marking at the side of its breast. It prefers still or slow-flowing streams. Eggs are laid in the bark of bushes close to the water, it resembles a gel-like substance on the branches ⇔ l. 40-47 mm syn. CHALCOLESTES VIRIDIS, Western willow spreadwing Spreadwings are characterised by the wing position, when resting they are slanting backwards. LA: ≈ The LESTES SPONSA (Emerald damselfly) is not as long with dark wing markings, as have most of this family. ≈ The LESTES BARBARUS (Shy emerald damselfly) has two-tone wing spots.
