Metallic shiny green fly with brown-red eyes, long black back hairs and translucent wings. With age, the colour becomes more gold-copper like. 

Adults feed on pollen and nectar, eggs are laid in droppings or carrion.

Used in forensic science to determine the time of death, as is the Urban bluebottle blowfly and Fly of the dead.

LA:
≈ The PHAENICIA SERICATA or LUCILIA SERICATA is similar and can only be distinguished under the microscope. But it lays its eggs in wounds of live animals and is less common.
