Small light green cricket with brown yellow vertical stripes on shield top and at the wing base. The yellow-green antennae are almost twice its body length. The wings are a little longer than the rear body but not extending beyond the ovipositor of the ♀ (to lay eggs) or the cerci (2 little extrusions) of the ♂. The wings have light coloured veins visible when resting. Found in woodland and parks preferring oak, beech and hazel to catch insects. In the evening and night, the drumming of the ♂ can be heard. ⇔ l. 12-17 mm syn. MECONEMA VARIUM, Drumming katydid LA: ≈ The LEPTOPHYES PUNCTATISSIMA (Speckled bush-cricket) is black speckled with very small wings.
