Top surface orange with black stripes and markings in a specific pattern. ♂ has scent stripes on the wing veins. ♀mostly orange and sometimes a bit greenish. There is also a green variety which is rare. Underside front wing is black, underside rear wing is greenish with white stripes. ⇔ wsp. 55-65 mm LA: ≈ There are no pearl-white stains at the under surface which is the difference with other fritillaries.
