Brown backswimmer with long rear legs like paddles, the front legs are much shorter. A wide head, flat belly and a somewhat round back. From the top, it looks a bit like a water droplet. Always swimming on its back just below the surface searching for insects or small fish, catching them with its powerful jaws and paralysing them with venom. It can fly as well, but walking is difficult. ⇔ l. 14-16 mm LA: ≈ The CORIXA PUNCTATA (Lesser water boatman) does not swim on its back and is more even brown.
