Black and orange beetle, the neck shield is orange, everything else is black. On its shield some vertical ridges. Lives in woodlands on fungus, carrion and droppings, on which it feeds. ⇔ l. 12-16 mm syn. OECEOPTOMA THORACICA Easy to recognise.
