Green shield bug with brown wingtips and body. Just before winter, it becomes completely brown then turns green again after hibernation. When threatened it excretes a smelly substance. Both the ♀ and ♂ make a noise to find each other. The young nymphs have 5 growing stadia and each stadium becomes more green and adult like. ⇔ l. 12-24 mm LA: ≈ The NEZARA VIRIDULA (Southern green stink bug) has three little dots on its back. ≈ Very similar to the PALOMENA VIRIDISIMA which has a wider neck shield (no photo).
