Light coloured damselfly with distinctive double shoulder line and 2 pairs of widened rear shin legs. The ♂ is pale blue to almost white with variable dark markings on the rear. The ♀ is beige to light green with a wide dark band on the rear that is sometimes broken or even missing in the centre. Prefers slow-flowing streams or still waters with some vegetation for hiding, often in groups. ⇔ l. 35-37 mm LA: Many COENAGRIONIDAE (Pond-damselflies) are blue but without the widened shin legs and with a different marking on the breast.
