Slim black-yellow wasp with a distinctive waist, the rear section is pointed at both ends. The antennae are yellow-orange, with a black base. The thin wings are faded brown.

The nest consists of one honeycomb with a grey cover and is built in wall cracks, in attics, but also on trees. The larvae are fed with insects, and the adults feed on nectar or ripe fruit.

LA:
The various POLISTES genus (Paper wasps) are very similar, and some have different antenna colours. 
≈ The POLISTES GALLICUS is almost the same and in literature often named identically. See photo LA.
≈ The VESPULA GERMANICA (German wasp), VESPULA VULGARIS (Wasp) and DOLICHOVESPULA SYLVESTRIS (Tree wasp) all have completely black antenna.
