Black hoverfly with 6 moon shaped markings on its back, translucent wings and large partly hair covered eyes. The larvae are light green with a white sideline. Often found on flowers, the larvae feed on several types of aphid. ⇔ l. 11-15 mm Like most hoverflies: the ♂ have connecting eyes while the ♀ have a small gap between the eyes. LA: ≈ The SCAEVA SELENITICA has yellow markings and is rounder in shape.
