Large brown butterfly, triangular shaped, the front wing is larger with a bent tip with a marking resembling a snakehead. On the front wing 2 and on its rear wing 1 translucent window showing the background. Fat chubby red body with thick orange-brown hairs. CP fancies several leaves and can become up to 120 mm. The butterfly does not eat and lives approximately 1 to 2 weeks. The cocoon is sometimes harvested and referred to as "Fagarasilk'. ⇔ wsp. 100-300 mm LA: There are many similar species but they are much smaller. The wing shape is often different and the 'snakehead' marking on the front wing is missing. See photo LA.
