Small red damselfly with a copper coloured upper body, mostly without shoulder stripes, a red rear body section, light red legs. Red wing markings and red-brown eyes. The ♂ is completely red, the ♀has more variation from completely red with dark edges to completely dark. Prefers shallow fresh water in forested areas. ⇔ l. 25-34 mm LA: ≈ Very similar to the PYRRHOSOMA NYMPHULA (Large red damselfly) which has black legs.
