Small grasshopper mostly brown but sometimes greenish to yellow and sometimes a red rear body tip. Below the wings, the body is ringed. The neck shield is hourglass shaped with a fold and dark markings. The antennae for the ♂ are half the body size, for the ♀ shorter. The wings are a little longer. Can be seen on most terrains but it dislikes the damp and needs sufficient vegetation. Feeds on grasses. ⇔ l. 13-26 mm The upper legs have small ribbons low on the side, used to strike along the wings to produce the sound. LA: ≈ The CHORTHIPPUS BRUNNEUS makes less noise and misses the rear ringed markings.
