Dark brown cricket with long antennae with yellow to white lines along the edge of the neck shield and legs. These are more readily seen on the darker coloured ♂ than on the grey-brown ♀. Both sexes have a yellowish belly.
The wings of the ♂ extend beyond the shield but for the ♀ they cannot be seen. The ♀ has a very long ovipositor (to lay its eggs), as long as her body, the ♂ has 2 little cerci. 

Shy and found mostly in bushes or in grasses or stony soil, the ♂ is very noisy but immediately quiet when disturbed.

⇔ l. 19-25 mm, ♀ ovipositor 19-21 mm

Found in the Alps between 800 and 1800 m altitude.
