A finch with a yellow face and grey head, the black wings have yellow bands. The ♂ has a bright yellow belly and olive green back. The ♀ has a grey belly and brown back, and the rump is yellow though. It prefers mountainous areas with pine and open areas. It feeds on grass seeds as well as pine kernels, in spring it eats insects as well. ⇔ l. 11-12 cm syn. SERINUS CITRINELLA LA: ≈ The SERINUS SERINUS (Serin) has less yellow and with more markings on its back. ≈ The CARDUELIS SPINUS (Siskin) has more stains. ≈ And the CARDUELIS CHLORIS (Greenfinch) is larger with more green and brown.
