The top surface is orange with black markings and white fringe. The under surface is ochre-brown with white pearl markings of which the central row has black edges followed by a row of small red markings. These can have a white centre. Mostly found alongside forest trails on foliage. ⇔ wsp. 25-38 mm syn. FABRICIANA ADIPPE Found in south Europe. LA: ≈ The ISSORIA LATHONIA (Queen of Spain fritillary) has more black markings on the upper surface. And under surface has larger markings with no black.
