Shrew mice mothers move their young in a row where each bites the end of the one in front. ⇔ hbl. 5-9 cm, tl. 2-5 cm The family SORICIDAE (Shrew) has two subfamilies in Europe that are visibly distinguished by the colour of the teeth. The subfamily CROCIDURINAE (White-toothed shrew) have white teeth without red tooth tips. In Europe there are 2 genera. The genus CROCIDURA has many different species that are all very similar, the best known are the CROCIDURA RUSSULA (Greater white-toothed shrew), CROCIDURA LEUCODON (Bicolored shrew) and CROCIDURA SUAVEOLENS (Lesser white-toothed shrew). The only member of the SUNCUS genus is the SUNCUS ETRUSCUS (Etruscan shrew) is the smallest European mammal. It has the same characteristics, big nose, white teeth and well-visible ears. LA: ≈ The subfamily SORICINAE (Red-toothed shrew) has red tooth tips and the small ears are hidden under the coat.
