Large brown spider with two yellow stripes covering the front and rear body and legs. The ♂ is about twice the size as the ♀. Likes to sunbathe on leaves along the waterfront, to take a dive when threatened and to hunt for small fish and other creatures. Takes down air within the hairs on the rear body. No web, prey gets caught and sucked dry. The thread is only used to make an egg cocoon, which is carried and defended by the ♀. ⇔ l. 10-22 mm LA: ≈ The DOLOMEDES PLANTARIUS (Great raft spider) is similar but larger. Sometimes the markings are fainter. See photo LA.
