White yellow armoured body with dark red dots sideways. On the head are club-like antennae. The body comprises up to 50 segments each with, except for the first three segments, 2 pairs of legs. The walking is wave like and not very fast, the legs can be seen when they walk. Although there are many legs, not as many as a thousand. Lives on young plants and roots. ⇔ l. 8-18 mm There are perhaps 10,000 subspecies of millipedes around the world that all have 2 pairs of legs per segment (the first 3 segments have only one pair). Some have 40 legs, others can have up to 700. They live on plants, dead wood and sometimes carrion, they do not hunt since their walking is not fast enough. They do not bite or sting but can smell bad when threatened for protection.
