Yellow-orange butterfly, the upper surface of the wings is orange with a wide brown edge with lighter markings. The undersurface of the wings is yellow apart from the centre of the front wing which is orange, there is a ♀ variation with a white marking, both have a black marking at the centre though. On the undersurface of the rear wing, there is an '8' shaped marking. As soon as the butterfly rests the wings close. It prefers open areas with flowers and especially Alfalfa. ⇔ wsp. 40-42 mm LA: ≈ Very similar to the COLIAS HYALE (Pale clouded yellow) which has a thinner brown band and the centre of the front wings are yellow.
