A brown-black Firefly, the ♂ has a brown striped shield on the wings and its neck shield has a dark brown marking. The ♀ resembles a larva with shielded rear segments and she is twice the size of the ♂. Both sexes and the larvae can emit light from the rear. The ♀ crawls in bushes luring the partner with her light. ⇔ l. 10-20 mm LA: ≈ The LAMPROHIZA SPLENDIDULA (Glow-worm) is smaller and prefers moist open areas.
