Slender multi coloured beetle, the body is black with white markings and has a short red-brown shield covering the folded wings. The legs and antennae are red-brown as well. Eats small animals, carrion and rotting plants and is an able flyer. When threatened it erects its rear but is not able to sting with it. ⇔ l. 17-25 mm Likes sunny dry places and is found in central Europe. LA: ≈ The OCYPUS OLENS (Devil's coach horse beetle) has a completely black body.
