Green yellow fly with brown wings, green breast and red eyes. The rear of the ♂ has thick gold yellow hairs while the ♀ is greener with less hair. Often in grass patches near cattle, eggs are laid in droppings where the larvae feed on other larvae species. Adults feed on other insects visiting flowers. ⇔ l. 5-11 mm syn. Golden dung fly
