Black striped cricket with yellow-white edges along the back shields, a sharp colour separation with the white belly. Black rear head, very long antennae which, like the legs, are grey to red coloured. The yellow wings are below the grey marked neck shield The ♂ has two short protrusions, the ♀ has a long ovipositor (to lay eggs). Makes a penetrating noise by rubbing its wings against each other, the wings are not adapted for flying. Can be found at ground level and in bushes often at higher altitudes. ⇔ l. 25-35 mm The crickets of the genus EPHIPPIGER are difficult to tell apart, the differences are in location and small gender differences. Distinctive to the species is the saddle-shaped neck shield.
