Long thin centipede, the head and first half are orange-yellow with a lighter coloured rear. Each segment has one pair of legs up to 80 pairs. Short thin antennae on its head. Prefers rich soil and often found under rocks. Feeds on small creatures and plant roots. ⇔ l. 50-70 mm syn. HAPLOPHILUS SUBTERRANEUS LA: ≈ The LITHOBIUS FORFICATUS (Brown centipede) is red-brown, shorter and wider and with fewer legs.
