Pink breast, back and beak with a black head, tail and wings. Immediately after moulting the pink becomes beige fading before summer. The ♀ has similar but paler colours. Young are initially light brown with darker wings, tail and a yellow beak. Feeding is at ground level, often in groups. ⇔ l. 20-22 cm syn. STURNUS ROSEUS, Rose-coloured starling, Rose-coloured pastor These migratory birds are wintering in India and breeding in central Asia and south-east Europe. Vagrants are often on their own. LA: ≈ The young can be mistaken for young STURNUS VULGARIS (Starlings).
