A shiny black starling with a purple glow and pink legs. Long throat and neck feathers. While breeding solid black and yellow beak, early in winter lighter tips at the feathers and the beak becomes dark grey. The ♀ is less shiny than the ♂, she has lighter under tail feathers. ⇔ l. 21-23 cm Can be found around the Mediterranean Sea. LA: ≈ The STURNUS VULGARIS (Starling) has larger speckles and a green glow and only winters around the Mediterranean. ≈ The ♂ TURDUS MERULA (Blackbird) has a yellow ring around its eye and no pink legs. ≈ The PYRRHOCORAX GRACULUS (Alpine chough) is much larger and has a curved beak.
