Brown to grey-black mouse with light grey to yellow belly, rough fur, short ears that have hairs on the inside. lots of colour variation. Lives in fields, forest edges and the banks of ditches. The ♀ have overlapping territories, the ♂ are very territorial. Active at night and in the daytime. ⇔ hbl. 8-13 cm, tl. 3-4.5 cm syn. Short-tailed vole Only found in north and central Europe. LA: ≈ The MICROTUS ARVALIS (Common vole) has a shorter and lighter coloured fur.
