Brown-grey front wings with darker striped markings, the rear wings are plain brown. The rear body is banded with a central length stripe.

Active in twilight and at night. It prefers Honeysuckle whereas the caterpillars prefer pine.

The caterpillar is green with lengthwise white stripes and a red stripe on top giving it an excellent camouflage in pine.

In warmer climates, there are 2 generations a year.
