The front wing is bluish black with yellow stripes and white dots. It prefers open and dry surroundings, often seen in the Alps, mostly in large groups. The caterpillar is hairy, black with bright yellow lines and white dots. ⇔ wsp. 40-50 mm syn. PANAXIA DOMINULA LA: ≈ The EUPLAGIA QUADRIPUNCTARIA (Jersey tiger) and ARCTIA CAJA (Garden tiger moth) have line markings instead of dotted markings.
