Dark brown hairy marten but large and looking more like a small bear. On the head, along with the flanks and tail, there is a lighter yellowish band. Small ears, short sturdy legs and partly retractable nails. Both sexes similar markings but the ♀ a little smaller. Hunts for mammals and birds that can be larger than itself, eats berries and carrion if no prey is at hand. The ♂ lives in northern America, Europe and Asia with a large territory of several hundreds of square km. In this territory, there are 2 or 3 ♀ each having a territory of several tenths of square km.
