Red-brown hairy bee with a black head and legs. The thick fur of the ♀ makes it look like a bumblebee. The ♂ is smaller, browner and with less hair with a bald rump but has a conspicuous white beard and long feelers. Prefers sandy soil in gardens, parks or sandpits. Nests are made below the surface. ⇔ l. 8-10 mm LA: The ANDRENA genus is huge and the bee subspecies are difficult to distinguish.
