A small colourful wasp with a metallic shine, the head and breast being green blue and the rear orange-pink. This is a cuckoo wasp, laying its eggs in the nests of other wasps. The larvae feed on the host larvae and the food provided. The size of the wasp is related to which species it targets. A cuckoo wasp does not sting; it curls up in defence. ⇔ l. 4-13 mm LA: Several subspecies of this family are difficult to distinguish. No photos available.
