Wide flat skimmer with a dark marking at the wing tips and a small black line on the front wing. The wing base has yellow-orange veins. Just hatched they are orange with a black central line on the rear. The ♂ rear becomes blueish with a black body and head without the orange wing veins. The ♀ becomes dark brown with grey eyes. ⇔ l. 40-45 mm Rare LA: ≈ The LIBELLULA DEPRESSA (Broad-bodied chaser) has bright yellow markings on its rear side and misses the central line. ≈ The LIBELLULA QUADRIMACULATA (Four-spotted chaser) has black markings on all 4 wings. ≈ The ♂ ORTHETRUM CANCELLATUM (Black-tailed skimmer) has black veins.
