A small hoverfly with a shiny copper coloured breast and clearly visible yellow-tipped antennae. The ♂ is thinner and longer than the ♀. The rear body is yellow with a black vertical stripe and cross stripes. For the ♀ these are curved and for the ♂ they are straight. ⇔ l. 8-10 mm LA: These black yellow SYRPHIDAE (Hoverflies) are difficult to distinguish, only small details in pattern and shape exist.
