Nature-guide information on trees and bushes finding.

How to search trees and bushes on RikenMon's nature guide.

Our Trees and bushes category is under development. We are strugling with it and if you want to take part of this please contact us at mail@rikenmon.nl, it would be greatly appreciated.

On the search page (by clicking the tree logo) you can limit the results by applying filters. If you are uncertain of the leave size you can select 2 and both will be shown (OR-function). All other selections have to be present (AND-function) giving you the option to limit your search results.

Leaf size

Take the size of the leaf without the stem. Obviously leaves grow hence try to find mature ones.

Leaf shape

When your leaf looks similar to one of the choices select it.

Twig

Look how twigs are placed on the root. Are they opposite, alternate or just whorled. In case you find thorns on the stem select this option.

Bark

This is a tricky one since most trees differ through age. However some trees clearly distinct them selfs this way.

Height

Obviously all trees are at a certain point small. But some trees never exceed certain height and that is what you are looking for here.

Seed

Most seeds, when visible have a distinct colour when ripe. Select that here.

Seed shell

A apple is a nice example of a soft shell, although some apples can be quite hard. A wallnut is obviously solid. Apart from these some seeds are carried by the wind. And some look like beans. Unfortunately there are many other options but very diverse, so if we find a tree none of the previous this option is selected.

Flower

When flowering select one or 2 colours. Please note if 2 are selected both need to be regularly present (and function)

Flower type

Like flowers tree flowers have similarities. Select the one if similar otherwise choose other.

Type

Basically we can make a first catgorisation into deciduous (leaf shedding), Evergreen (pine etc), bushes (without main stem) or palm (with large ranged leaves). The choise is often obvious.
